Visiting the Wellsville Area

Wellsville, New York is a lovely small town in the heart of the Allegheny Hills of Allegany County, NY. The Genesee River winds through the community and at the confluence with Dyke Creek sets Island Park the home of two of the community events each year: Trout Derby & Balloon Rally. Walking the community takes one past the oil boom mansions of the past along North Main Street.

A visit to the Dyke Street Museum is a special opportunity as well as a short ride to Bolivar to visit the Oil Museum on Main Street Bolivar. The International Ceramic Museum is located "just over the hill" in Alfred NY on the Alfred University campus.

Each Thursday during the summer Music on the Lawn is held at the Howe Library located on Main Street. Excellent acts visit this each year. Also on Main Street is the Wellsville Creative Arts Center that hosts art classes, a coffeehouse and live entertainment each weekend. The Grand Theater hosts two screens for the latest movies.

The Wellsville Country Club has 18 holes of excellent golf crossing the Genesee River. In the surrounding hills you'll find opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, cross country skiing and more. Fishing and hunting opportunities are available throughout the area on the 55,000 acres of state forest lands within Allegany County.

Trout Derby April 2008 A Fun Family Event with 450 Fish and over $25,000 in Prize Money

Music on the Lawn 2008 - Held in front of Howe Library on North Main Street - July & August @ 7pm Thursdays

June 26, The Orange and Black Alumni Concert features the sounds of Steel Door in time for Alumni Weekend

July 3, The Angelica Lavender Festival organizers host guitar soloist and comedian Tom Stahl

July 10, Music has yet to be announced.

July 17, Sound Foundation will once again play its traditional gig introducing the Great Wellsville Balloon Rally.

July 24, It will be jazz on the lawn when Mark Amman returns with Trio Nouveau He soloed his first time at MOTL.

July 31, Fred McCarty is back in the saddle again, and will perform his recent material as well as old favorites on guitar.

Aug. 7, Southern Expresso, of Cuba, will bring their blend of light, breezy tunes to the lawn.

Aug. 14, A revamped Olivario will perform. The group from Jamestown now plays a variety o old time rock and roll.

Aug. 21, LAWNSTOCK returns with its regular flair and fun in celebration of that 60’s generation.

Aug. 28, MOTL will end its season with Terry Buckwald performing his tribute to Elvis, as well as singing as himself.

By mid-July the renovated Nancy Howe Auditorium will be available in case of rain. In the meantime , as in the past MOTL will be subject to cancellation in case of inclement weather.
